Drawing - Learn the basic principles that enable an artist to draw anything. Shape theory, tones, perspective, color, depth, proportion, and the proper portrayal of light and shadow. Color Pencil Drawing - Expand on your basic drawing skills. Wax color pencils, watercolor wash pencils, ink pencils, and graphitint pencils are explored. Mixed media pencil drawings are encouraged.
Watercolor Painting - Learn techniques like wet-on-wet, fan and rigger brush, salting, paper collage, and many more.
Acrylic Painting - Learn the basics of acrylic painting, beginning with simple tabletop still lifes, and then advance to landscapes, abstracts, and florals. More advanced students explore the human figure, portraiture, and palette knife painting. Color theory is explored in depth.
Pointillism - Study a variety of pointillist techniques and learn about the history of pointillism through the ages. Detailed ink drawings, oil paint optical blending, dot paintings in acrylics, and more.
Portfolio Development - One-on-one help compiling an impressive portfolio to help you reach your academic and artistic goals. One student was recently accepted into the New Jersey School of Architecture!
Oil Painting - Oil painters must learn how to mix solvents properly and paint with special techniques (such as "fat over lean") to ensure long-lasting artwork. Learn the basics of oil painting, beginning with simple tabletop still lifes, and then advance to landscapes, abstracts, and florals. More advanced students explore the human figure, portraiture, and palette knife painting. Color theory is explored in depth.
Inks - Classic black on white ink drawings as well as bold, colored ink works. Learn techniques involving a variety of pens and brushes.
Art and Yoga for Kids - A unique combination: small group classes for children combining art with yoga. A break is taken in the middle of class to refresh with yoga stretching (Jill is a certified yoga instructor). After this relaxing break, the children finish their art projects.
